San Mateo County Arrest Records
If you live in San Mateo County and happen to be searching for arrest records then the first place you have to visit is the arresting agency or law enforcement agency that made the arrest. There are four different law enforcement agencies that you can approach depending on where or who made the arrest – the Redwood City Main Office, the Half Moon Bay Substation, the Millbrae substation and the San Carlos Substation. Each station has their criminal records division that you can contact or visit to make your request. Another way to do so is to visit the Sheriff’s office which is in the Redwood City.
The Sheriff’s Criminal Records Bureau is in charge of all San Mateo County arrest records in the county. To request for the records, one must provide a case number and valid identification. One must be authorized or named as one of the parties in the incident in order to receive a copy of the report. Some reports might require approval or access is restricted and in some instance would require a court order. If the case one is interested in is restricted, they must download a request for release of information and together with any valid government- issued ID, mail it to the Sheriff’s Office for processing. If the report is no longer available in the Sheriff’s Office, one should contact the District Attorney’s office.
On the other hand, for those who already have a criminal record, the Sheriff’s Office can provide a “booking chronology” report which includes information on the time spent in the jail facility or under the Sheriff’s Work Program. Some who need a more comprehensive report should contact the appropriate court to request for further information. To be able to request for a “booking chronology” report, submit a Booking Chronology Application form together with any valid government-issued ID to the Sheriff’s Office. Aside from these government agencies, one may also consider hiring third party search providers that can do the records research and some online sites also offer free inmate or offender searches. Comprehensive and detailed searches are also available for a nominal fee.
